Whimsical branding for a local coffee shop

Tunic Coffee is a café in Northampton, MA, offering coffee, board games, chocolates, and good vibes. Inspired by a shared love of fantasy, games, and imagining other worlds, owners Dan and Josh wanted to create a coffee shop that would also be a meeting place for game enthusiasts and other creative types.

The brief was to be a little weird and whimsical, which manifested as hand-drawn, character-ful typography, watercolor texture (which reminded them of old game graphics) and a loose, imperfect illustration style. Illustrations include adventure and coffee shop related icons that can be used on their own or in hand-drawn borders.

As part of their launch, Tunic worked with local signpainter Hired Hand who brought the sign design into physical form using gold leaf for the yellow/gold sections. For Phase 2, they plan to add the trim color updates and window embellishments as seen in our mockup below.
